Get Up and Goals Grand Parade!

14th June 2019

Today saw the culmination of a range of work that pupils at Chesnut Lodge have been completing with the Liverpool World Centre. Pupils in Secondary 2 have been working through a range of resources deigned by the Liverpool World Centre to teach young people about the Sustainable Development Goals as part of the Get Up and Goals project.

Pupils decided to think about the goals around migration, and working with the Liverpool based Lantern Company, designed sculptures that reflected movement and flight. The first sculpture is a fabulous pair of wings that have been printed to represent the world and the second is a showcase of winged shoes painted in the colours of the refugee flag. Both sculptures aim to represent the people all over the world who may have to move for unforeseen / unwanted reasons.

To celebrate their work Secondary 2 held a Grand Parade for the whole school around the forest. Pupils were joined by a fabulous Brazilian folk band trio and paraded the work completed by the whole school. The sun made a rare appearance and nearly 70 of our pupils, along with staff and parents joined in the fun. We can’t wait to show off the finished sculptures!
